  You might want to check that Excalibur isn&#39;t one of the artifacts in &lt;br&gt; your stash before you excavate the entire dungeon. If you have that &lt;br&gt; many in there, it&#39;s entirely possible you just didn&#39;t notice the name.

  Actually, not true. Usually, most shopkeepers first use their wands of &lt;br&gt; all things. Thus, if you a wizard and therefore have a cloak of magic &lt;br&gt; resistance and a wand of something powerful (like fire) you can take &lt;br&gt; it out with almost no damage. But that&#39;s a special case.
