I'm giving a try to UnNethack due to recent post (and currently boring extinctionism game on vanila / NAO), on un.nethack.nu (Unix UnNetHack Version 3.5.2 - last build Tue Oct 13 17:10:50 2009.) Unnethack 351 - impressions - spoilers

Ok, I finally ascended in Unnethack 351 so I thought I'd record my observations here. There are spoilers below. In general, I think the game achieves what it sets out to achieve - less randomness at the start of the game and more randomness in the middle and endgame. In my opinion this makes it quite a lot harder... lisää

Enhance a wizard's experience level in the late game?

I seem to recall that it was said that effectiveness of attack spells like magic missile would increase if the characters experience level increases. Incidentally my XL:18 (or so) wizard has half a dozen spare potions of gain level. Saving them for alchemy seems not necessary any more (he has already ~300 HPs), so there's the two apparent options to... lisää

Polymorphed shopkeeper?

Well, I found a wand of polymorph in a shop. I decided to use use it to steal, but I polymorphed the shopkeeper, not me. So It looked like this Asidonhopo the yellow dragon gets angry! ...So anyway, what would happen if I found the bones? Would killing the ant be murder? Would it be angry at me?Could it be appeased with gold?... lisää

Death and Life Saving

Death will drain your maxHPs, so I wonder what happens if one is wearing an amulet of life saving. Will your maxHPs will be restored to your last value? (Which certainly wouldn't be too helpful, and that would make the "AoLS only worthwhile to wear when facing Pestilence or Famine.) Janis

Happy to announce my first foodless ascension! Used a monk, to make intrinsics easier, and to go for weaponless at the same time. The RNG was friendly and a found a /oW around dungeon level 5, which went for a ring of slow digestion, speed boots, the Eye of the Aethiopica, and GoP. A polymorph trap in the mines turned my pet... lisää
